Students will learn and strengthen the proper techniques for holding and playing brass, percussion, and woodwind instruments while developing characteristic tone quality, rhythm reading, dynamics, balance, blend, and overall musicianship. With approval and recommendation from the band director, students may elect to play the instrument best suited to their interests and abilities. Through daily rehearsals, exercises, rhythm studies, and performance preparation, students will continue building confidence and skill as individual musicians and ensemble members. In addition to large group performances, students are encouraged to pursue individual growth through opportunities such as solo and ensemble festivals, district honor bands, chamber ensembles, private lessons, and optional music composition and computational thinking activities. Chorus also provides opportunities for students to build teamwork, leadership, collaboration, and self-confidence through group rehearsals and performances. The courses also emphasize self-awareness, leadership, goal setting, and career exploration, helping students connect their personal interests to future career opportunities. By eighth grade, students integrate multiple health concepts to set personal wellness goals, prevent disease and substance abuse, and develop habits that support lifelong health. As they progress, they explore the seven functions of marketing\u2014finance, information management, distribution, product management, pricing, promotion, and selling\u2014through project-based learning that strengthens critical thinking and problem-solving skills. In the final course, students examine high school pathway options within Marketing and Hospitality &amp; Tourism, gaining exposure to careers in areas such as retail, sports and entertainment marketing, fashion merchandising, and hospitality management. In seventh grade, students expand their movement abilities by performing a variety of organized activities that emphasize controlled manipulative skills and a deeper understanding of health-related fitness concepts, while also learning the importance of personal responsibility and safe participation. Students explore how criteria, constraints, systems thinking, and processes influence the development of effective solutions to real-world problems. They also study the history and impact of inventions and innovations, including how technologies evolve over time and how ideas can be protected through processes such as patenting. In addition, students examine technological systems at both micro and macro levels, learning how components interact within larger systems that impact humans, the environment, and the global community. Throughout the program, students strengthen skills in communication, research, and design while reinforcing concepts from math, science, social studies, and language arts.
